Our Gas Infrastructure: In the Heart of Europe

Our gas infrastructure covers an area of about 35,500 km² in southern Bavaria and provides access to the Austrian gas system, including its large storage facilities that are also relevant for Germany. Since our network area is part of the Trading Hub Europe (THE) market area, we ensure that the ”Regelzone Ost“, Tyrol and Vorarlberg market areas in Austria are connected to the THE market area.

We provide the gas infrastructure for Bavaria, neighbouring German federal states and Austria that is required to reliably supply connected network customers with gas at all times. These customers include municipal utilities, power plants, storage facility operators, industrial and adjacent national and international transmission system operators.

It is generally possible to inject gas into or withdraw gas from our transmission system at any time. If you request a connection to our network, we will check the technical requirements case-by-case at the desired network connection point.

To Network Connection

Biogas and hydrogen injection enquiries for admixture are principally subject to a compatibility test of the mixed gases with the gas composition requirement in accordance with currently valid regulations and with the interoperability with the directly and indirectly affected gas infrastructure in the network.

To the Security of Supply

Developing Our Gas Infrastructure in Line with Demand

Together with the other German transmission system operators, bayernets submits an integrated plan for network development every two years. The Network Development Plan Gas and Hydrogen (NDP Gas and Hydrogen) contains all effective measures for optimising and strengthening the gas network. It also includes expanding the gas and hydrogen transmission system in line with demand as well as ensuring security of supply.

The Coordination Office for Integrated Network Development Planning Gas and Hydrogen (KO.NEP) manages the drawing up of scenario frameworks and gas and hydrogen network development plans by the obligated network operators. The Coordination Office submits the prepared documents drawn up by the transmission system operators and operators of hydrogen transport networks to the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) for review.

Throughout the whole process, authorities, important market participants and the public are actively involved.
