The Energy Supply of the Future Will Not Just Happen: We Have to Make It Future-Proof
Germany aims to be climate-neutral by 2045, which means for us that we need to guarantee security of supply both in the gas network as well as in the growing hydrogen network during the transformation phase until 2045. And this is what we are doing.
Important to know: Operating systems will simultaneously require continued targeted investments in the gas infrastructure. Our share of the future hydrogen core network is based to 80 % on repurposed pipelines. This makes sense from a climate and economic perspective, but new connecting pipelines will therefore be required. As the share of volatile wind and solar power is increasing, we will need new gas-fired power plants that can be flexibly ramped up as a backup. And these power plants need to be connected to the grid.
